
Genhua Pan

Genhua Pan is a Professor and Associate Head of School (Research) in the School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics at University of Plymouth, where he also serves as Head of the Wolfson Nanomaterials & Devices Laboratory. He has over 30 years of experience in research and teaching across micro- and nano-scale thin films and devices, information storage technologies, and electronic engineering. His current research focuses on graphene and two-dimensional materials and devices, biosensors, renewable energy and solar cells, spintronics, and magnetic data storage.
Professor Pan graduated from Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China) in January 1982 as part of the first generation of university graduates following China’s Cultural Revolution. He worked at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences until 1988, before being awarded a scholarship to Loughborough University of Technology. He joined Plymouth University in 1989, obtained his PhD in materials and physics in 1993, and subsequently held a research fellowship. He was appointed Lecturer in 1996, Reader in 2004, and Professor in 2006.
Throughout his career, he has held visiting researcher positions at leading international institutions, including the comSony Research Centre (Yokohama, Japan), Akita Institute of Technology (Japan), and Seagate Technology (Northern Ireland). He has led and contributed to numerous national and international research projects. He is currently the Coordinator of the EU H2020 BBDiag project and also participates in the EU H2020 AiPBAND project and an EPSRC-funded project.
Professor Pan is the founder of the Wolfson Nanomaterials & Devices Laboratory at Plymouth. He has served as a committee member of the UK Magnetic Society and as an independent expert reviewer for European Commission projects. His publication record includes over 100 journal and conference papers, three book chapters, and six patents.
