
David Jenkins

Dr. David Jenkins is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in nanomaterials and devices. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics from the University of Salford (1983), an M.Sc. in Lasers and their Applications from the University of Essex (1985), and completed his Ph.D. at Cranfield Institute of Technology in 1991, focusing on “Photothermal Deflection Spectroscopy and its Application in Remote Sensing.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Jenkins has made significant contributions to the field, with over 120 publications and conference presentations. His research focuses on sensor development for the characterization and optimization of materials and devices, particularly in the detection of contaminants in drinking water and early onset disease detection. He has supervised numerous PhD students and continues to mentor current students in various research areas such as carbon aerogels for water filtration, solar cells, damage detection in composite materials, and wearable technology for performing arts.
Dr. Jenkins has held various academic positions, including Research Fellow at Manchester University (1993-1997), Lecturer at Plymouth University (1997-2019), and currently serves as an Associate Professor at Plymouth University (2019-present). He also holds adjunct and affiliate professor positions at VIT University, Saveetha University, and BS Abdur Rahman, The Crescent University, all located in Chennai, India.
